An education course called Postponing Sexual Involvement was
administered to 187,000 teens ages 12 to 14 in California.
The course stressed sexual abstinence as being among the best
ways to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
After surveying 7,000 of the students following their
completion of the course, ETR Associates found that the class
had no significant impact on the teens. California Governor
Pete Wilson dropped the course last year, saying it was
ineffective in reducing teen pregnancy rates.
