Community response on the social impacts of HIV/AIDS among the adolescents (cultural & religious).

ISSUE: Adolescents Vulnerability to HIV/AIDS in urban areas need appropriate urgent action. PROJECT: Realising the high rate of HIV/AIDS infection in the adolescents more due to cultural and religious factors, interventions were preset/laid out strategies include sensitisations on the vulnerability of the adolescents to HIV/AIDS epidemic, promotion of safer sex, discouraging forced marriages, unwanted pregnances, early marriages and creation of supportive environment for the good growth of adolescents, establishment of the youth centre. RESULTS: Within eight months, the no. of adolescents visiting the youth centre increased up to 70% compared to 30% 8 months back. 635 youth received counselling services, condoms compared to 05% 8 month bfre. LESSONS LEARNED: The methodology used in health education in schools is not interplay. This should be more interactal and friendly. The illeterate youth are not attended to: where translations are made, messages are distorted. There is need to translate the messages into the local languages. The youth centres would be useful.
