AUSTRALIA: Australia to Host World's Biggest AIDS Forum

Australian Associated Press (11.29.11) - Tuesday, December

Melbourne has been selected as the site of the 20th International AIDS Conference in 2014. Sharon Lewin, a professor of medicine at Monash University, will co-chair the conference, whose biennial convocation is the world's largest HIV/AIDS meeting. More than 25,000 experts from 200 nations are expected to attend. Lewin noted that while treatment for HIV "is completely life transforming," only 45 percent of people in low-income countries can access it. Even that partial access "is potentially under threat" due to the global financial crisis, she said.
