BRAZIL: Rio Giving Out 3 Million Free Condoms During Carnival

The government of Rio de Janeiro state will hand out more than 3 million free condoms during the five-day Carnival festival, which begins Friday. The state's HIV/STD prevention campaign, "Using a Condom Rates 10 in Harmony," is especially targeted to young audiences. Condoms will be provided to attendees packing the Sambodrome to watch parades Sunday night and Monday, as well as to revelers at the various street parties across the city. The campaign includes the distribution of 160,000 STD prevention leaflets.
