The Greenwood Public Schools board voted Tuesday to adopt an
abstinence-plus approach for sex education classes beginning
in the fall, according to a report in the Greenwood
Commonwealth. Boys and girls will receive the lessons
separately in grades seven through 12, said Superintendent
Margie Pulley, and parents will decide whether their children
participate. A state law requires that each school district
choose an abstinence-only or abstinence-plus curriculum to
offer starting with the 2012-13 academic year.
