Responding to 12 new HIV cases in five months, Missoula County
health officials have formed a coalition to raise awareness
about HIV prevention and to encourage more people to be
tested. The cases involve men ages 19-65 who contracted the
virus through unprotected sex, the Missoula Health Department
said. Some were infected through casual encounters, while
others presumed they were in monogamous relationships. Women
also were exposed, said Christa Weathers, director of Open Aid
Alliance, an AIDS service organization. No new cases have been
confirmed since late March.
