ORLANDO, Fla., April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Safe in Common, a non-profit organization of healthcare safety advocates, today announced it will take part in Nursing 2012 Symposium being held in Orlando, FL from April 25-28.
During its year-long Needlestick Safety Advocacy Tour, Safe in Common is participating in more than a dozen healthcare conferences and visiting many hospitals throughout the nation to raise awareness of needlestick safety dangers and encourage healthcare personnel to take the Needlestick Safety Pledge. This year's Nursing Symposium, held at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort, will be attended by thousands of healthcare personnel.
"The Symposium is an ideal place to introduce Safe in Common as a resource for healthcare personnel who agree that more can be done to protect them from the persistent danger of needlestick injuries," said Dr. Mary Foley, Chairperson of Safe in Common. "As Safe in Common continues to grow as a resource for healthcare personnel, we look forward to attending and supporting events such as this one that address emerging trends and the challenges inherent in healthcare today."
Some 5.6 million U.S. healthcare personnel are at risk of occupational exposure to HIV, hepatitis C and other life-threatening bloodborne diseases transmitted via needlestick injuries. During the Symposium, Safe in Common will engage with healthcare personnel to listen to their concerns regarding needlestick safety, record their stories and unite with them behind the shared goal of creating a work environment free from the risk of needlestick injuries.
