AL.com (10.10.12) A Birmingham, Ala., nonprofit organization, Aletheia House, has been awarded $500,000 per year over five years—for a total of $2.5 million—from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to implement a program to provide substance abuse treatment and HIV prevention services in four rural Alabama counties. Aletheia House Director Chris Retan notes that the nonprofit already maintains a presence in three of the counties and will begin the Healthy Living program, which involves counseling, testing, and peer support, in January.
