Augusta Chronicle (01.24.13) Thanks to the CDC-funded teen pregnancy prevention program Youth Leadership Council for We Are Change, Richmond County, Ga., teenagers are reaching out to their peers about teen pregnancy and reproductive health on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. We Are Change launched the social media campaign on January 18 with an online quiz for teenagers. Donna Elliston, project director for the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential, which administers We Are Change, declares, “We want them to take the quiz to help them think more seriously about protecting themselves.” The quiz tests a teenager’s knowledge on the cost of raising a baby, safe-sex methods, locations of health clinics, and other information. Elliston says the goal is to connect teens to clinical services in Richmond County. The Youth Leadership Council of We Are Change designed the quiz, testing the questions and ensuring that peers would be receptive to the quiz. According to CDC, the teen birth rate for Georgia was 41.4 per 1,000 females ages 15-19 in 2010. Teens aged 15 to 19 are invited to take the teen pregnancy prevention and safe sex quiz. Visit www.gpowernow.org/quiz to take the quiz through February 3. All teens who take the quiz will be entered into a shopping spree contest. At the end of the quiz, the program invites teens to take a pledge to practice safe sex or abstain from sex. Use Twitter hashtag #WeRChange to see what teens are saying.
