ITALY: Levels of Hepatitis A Rising in Italy

The Italian Ministry of Health has issued a directive to increase surveillance and initiate investigations as to possible sources of infection after 16 regions of the country reported a 70-percent increase in hepatitis A cases between March and May of this year, compared to the same time period last year. In April, the cases were also reported through the Epidemic Intelligence Information System for Diseases Transmitted by Food and Water and the Rapid Alert System of the European Commission.
