CALIFORNIA: Male Gonorrhea Diagnoses Spike in San Mateo County

According to a report released by the San Mateo County, Calif., Health System, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis B and C diagnoses for the first quarter of 2013 were all relatively static compared with the same time period for 2012. However, statistics for male gonorrhea cases were significantly higher, with a 52–percent increase for the first three months of 2013 in comparison with the first quarter of 2012. Neighboring counties did not observe the same rise in cases.
