LOUISIANA: LSU Dental School Gets $1.8M 5-Year HIV/AIDS Grant

On August 1, the federal Health Resources and Services Administration announced the awarding of a five-year, $1.8 million grant to a community-based dental partnership at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center New Orleans. The dental school will instruct students in how to care for HIV/AIDS patients and provide that care at the LSU HIV Outpatient Clinic in New Orleans and the Community Healthworx Clinic in Alexandria. According to Dr. Robert Barsley, who heads the program, the clinics have administered 8,000 treatments to more than 1,100 patients thus far.
