Nueces County Record Star (11.25.2013)
The Nueces County Record Star reported that the Corpus Christi-Nueces County, Texas, Public Health District’s STD/HIV Program will offer free HIV rapid tests on Monday, December 2, in honor of World AIDS Day. The program will provide results the same day. People who want the test must tell the staff they are “here for World AIDS Day” so the fee is waived. There has been a continued rise in HIV incidence in Nueces County, which now has the 17th highest number of HIV cases and the 18th highest rate of AIDS cases in the state, according to health department officials. The intention of the event is to increase AIDS awareness and encourage people to know their status. “HIV has become a manageable condition if people are aware of their test results, so we encourage everyone to get tested and know their HIV status,” said Andrea Hanner, STD/HIV program manager. The free testing event will take place at 1702 Horne Road, Room 134, in Corpus Christi, from 8 to 11 a.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the Health District at (361) 826–1307.
