Tampa Bay’s WTSP.com recently reported that the Florida Department of Health in Polk County (FDOH-Polk) will offer free vaccinations for human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B at Polk State College’s Winter Haven and Lakeland campuses in observance of January’s National Cervical Health Awareness Month. According to FDOH-Polk Nursing Program Specialist Randy Crump, getting vaccinated against HPV is an important step that helps protect against the most common types of HPV and helps reduce cancer risk. The department will offer the vaccinations free of charge through a grant from CDC, as well as free HIV testing and screening for other STDs. FDOH-Polk will provide the free vaccinations and screenings at Polk State College’s Winter Haven Campus Health Center, 999 Avenue H NE, January 9, noon–2:00 p.m., and January 22, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.; and at the college’s Lakeland Campus Technology Building, 3425 Winter Lake Road, January 24, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
