Illawarra Mercury (NSW, Australia) (01.14.2014)
Illawarra Mercury reported that the CaddyShack mobile chlamydia screening program is making the rounds this summer to beaches in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia, to provide free sexually transmitted infection screening for beachgoers. Targeting youth, program staff members ask participants to provide a urine sample at mobile testing stations at the beach and deliver negative results via text message. A nurse from a sexual health clinic contacts those with positive results to discuss treatment options. The program is a joint initiative of Healthy Cities Illawarra, the Illawarra Shoalhaven Sexual Health Service, and the HIV and Related Programs Unit that hopes to overcome the stigma preventing youth from seeking sexual healthcare. The CaddyShack Summer Tour will visit Shellharbour Beach on January 17; Minnamurra Beach on January 24; Lyrebird Park, Nowra on February 14; and Ulladulla Beach on February 28.
