Fort Worth Star-Telegram (04.06.12) - Friday, April 06, 2012 Six TB tests read during an initial round of screening at Tarrant County College (TCC)'s Southeast Campus in Arlington were positive for the disease, meaning those persons will undergo further evaluation. Health officials have identified 259 people at TCC who may have been exposed to a former student now being treated for active TB in Dallas County. Some 126 people were screened on Tuesday, and 105 tests had been read by Thursday. Because turnout may have been affected by this week's severe storms in the area, the test will be offered again on April 17. The six people identified in the first testing round will need chest X-rays to help determine whether they have signs of active disease, said Gerry Drewyer, division manager of the Tuberculosis Elimination Program at Tarrant County Public Health. The mother of one TCC student was unhappy with the way the situation was handled, saying the communication her daughter received did not say where she should go for testing. TCC spokesperson Rita Parson said the letters stated when and where health officials would offer skin tests. Reminders also were sent to students via email, and a notice was posted on TCC's website, she said.
