The Philadelphia and Neshoba County school systems have adopted an abstinence-only approach for sex education classes beginning in the fall. The instruction initially will be taught to seventh-graders, the Neshoba Democrat reported, and students will be separated by gender. Parents will decide whether their children take part. By state law, every Mississippi school district must decide by June 30 whether to offer abstinence-only or abstinence-plus sex education starting with the 2012-13 academic year.
