CBC News (12.04.12) Aids Weekly Plus Dustin Duncan, Saskatchewan’s health minister, stated that a case of TB in a student at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, has raised awareness of the disease in the province. He said that Saskatchewan has a higher rate of TB disease than the rest of the country, with a rate of about 80 cases a year, mostly in the north. Duncan announced that the government plans a five-year strategy to deal with TB, beginning in 2013. Meanwhile, dozens of student who had classes with the TB patient gathered at a makeshift clinic for testing. The Saskatoon Health Region sent emails to approximately 600 students and will be doing further tests. Health officials said that there was a very small chance that any of the individuals who were being tested will develop TB and those who test negative will be re-tested in about two months.
