CDC HIV/AIDS/Viral Hepatitis/STD/TB Prevention News Update CONNECTICUT: Agency: Sequestration to Impact Women Staff Writer

The Hartford Guardian (03.04.13) Aids Weekly Plus Judy Tabar, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE), warns that mandatory sequestration budget cuts will affect women who receive healthcare from the Title X Family Planning Program, leaving them without preventive healthcare and affordable birth control. Title X program services include birth control, Pap tests, breast exams, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections. Tabar stated that the cuts resulting from sequestration could reduce Title X funding by $15 million in 2013, in addition to $23 million in budget reductions throughout the last two years. PPSNE provides health services to more than 70,000 men, women, and teens.
