OREGON: Daedalus Project Takes Flight

Mail Tribune (Medford) (08.14.2013)

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) publicized the schedule for its 26th annual “Daedalus Project” HIV/AIDS fundraiser, which will begin Friday, August 16, and culminate on August 19 with the fundraiser’s signature event, “The Wings of Daedalus” variety show. This year’s fundraiser will kick off at the Varsity Theatre with a three-day film festival featuring nine screenings of five films. Those interested in the film festival can purchase tickets for $10 and access film details by telephone at (541) 482–4331 or online at http://www.osfashland.org/DaedalusFilmFest. Other scheduled events include a 5K run beginning Sunday, August 18, at 9:00 a.m. in the OSF courtyard. Race participants could pay either $25 for advanced registration or $30 onsite registration. Participants could sign up online at https://runsignup.com/ by searching “Daedalus” under “Find a Race” on the right side of the home page. Monday’s schedule will include two sold-out events: a reading of the 1990 musical “Falsettoland,” at 2:00 p.m. in the Angus Bowmer Theatre, and “The Wings of Daedalus” variety show. Performed at the outdoor Elizabethan Stage, the variety show will feature company members and community artists. Origami feathers, which would complete a set of wings, are available for $5 under “The Wings of Daedalus” on http://www.indeigogo.com/. Each feather contains an HIV/AIDS-related name, reflection, or benediction. The Daedalus Project will continue its tradition of distributing 100 percent of donations to HIV/AIDS projects. Last year’s distribution included $57,000 to the Alan F. Collins AIDS Project at OnTrack, Inc.; $16,000 to Oregon HIV Alliance; $12,000 to Siskiyou County HIV/AIDS Foundation; $10,000 to G.R.A.C.E USA; and $5,000 to Africare.
