Metro New York (02.19.2014)
Metro New York reported that a recent New York City Health Department survey found that the majority of New Yorkers have sex without condoms, with the lowest use rate occurring in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The survey posed the question to 8,500 New Yorkers across all five boroughs and found that only 14.2 percent of sexually active Greenpoint residents said that they or their partners used a condom the last time they had sex. In comparison, the survey determined that Central Harlem had the highest rate of condom use, with 43.3 percent, according to the 2012 Community Health Survey. Overall, the survey found that only 31.8 percent of sexually active New Yorkers used condoms last time they had sex, but a statement from the health department noted that condom use for individuals at risk for HIV rose to 58.3 percent in 2012.
