MYANMAR: ADB to Assist on Poverty Alleviation and HIV Prevention Projects

Eleven (02.24.2014) Aids Weekly Plus

Eleven reported that Asia Development Bank (ADB) officials said they had signed an agreement with the Myanmar government to undertake poverty alleviation and HIV prevention projects for rural populations. Putu Kamayana of the ADB said the cash assistance of $12 million provided by the Japanese government will help individuals living in the Ayeyawady Delta Region and central Myanmar, as well as the Taninthari Region and Shan State, where the poverty rate has increased at double the urban rate. The government will spend $10 million to provide HIV/AIDS prevention services due to the increase of individuals being diagnosed with the virus in Myanmar’s remote areas.
