The Province (Vancouver) (02.25.2014)
The Province reported that a University of British Columbia engineering graduate is behind the creation of what Guinness World Records has labeled the world’s thinnest condom, at 0.036 millimeters thick. Victor Chan grew up in Vancouver but returned to Hong Kong in 2009 to work in his family’s condom company. Guangzhou Daming United Rubber Products manufactures the Aoni condom, which is sold mostly in China, but Chan hopes to market the condom in North America as well. The company will need a marketing plan that will resonate with Canadian and American users, since they currently opt for thicker condoms that promote a feeling of more safety. However, Vancouver Sex Educator Kristen Gilbert said individuals also are interested in how pleasurable condoms make the users feel, and one way to achieve that is for them to be thinner.
