The Senate Education Committee voted 9-0 Wednesday night for a
bill that would require an "abstinence-centered" focus for
public school family life curricula. The measure, by Sen. Jack
Johnson (R-Franklin), would require that such instruction
emphasize that abstinence is refraining from "any kind of
sexual contact." The House Education Committee is set to take
up the companion bill on Tuesday.
