The Department of Health and Human Services is awarding $728
million through the Affordable Care Act to build capacity in
community health programs nationwide, and Bay Area health
centers will receive almost $19 million. Lifelong Medical Care
in Berkeley was awarded $5 million to create a new clinic
chiefly targeting low-income communities in Alameda County and
western Contra Costa County to treat people with HIV or mental
or physical disabilities, as well as the homeless and persons
enrolled in Medi-Cal.
