On February 19, HCV Coalition Founder Margaret Dudley, along with her husband and many other advocates, announced a drive to obtain 100,000 signatures that they plan to present to the White House. Hepatitis C is the most widespread blood-borne infection in the United States, and more than 1,000 people living with the disease die each day in this country—more die from this disease than from AIDS. Dudley and the HCV Coalition want all to know that there is treatment for hepatitis C; their frustration is that it is not being used. Dudley states that two pills from two different pharmaceutical companies, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Gilead, have shown remarkable results, but their use against hepatitis C is stalled. Dudley claims that the drug companies are placing profits before patients by not going forward with the medicines that they have developed. Directing her plea to the drug companies, Dudley declares, “You have the cure, you developed it, give us access to it." The HCV Coalition has 1 month to obtain the 100,000 signatures through their online petition drive. To sign it, go to http://hepc-cured.com.
