State Rep. Aaron M. Vega (D-Holyoke) took a hepatitis C test recently at Tapestry Health’s needle exchange facility as part of an awareness day. Vega announced that he tested negative and explained that he took the test to show how easy and painless it was. He noted that by taking 20 minutes out of the day, an individual could ensure their health and their family’s health. According to Tapestry, testing is recommended because before widespread screening of blood began in 1992, hepatitis C was commonly spread through blood transfusions and organ transplants. Tapestry provides free testing.
