The Philadelphia Board of Education has called for public hearings during the next two weeks to discuss issuing condoms in district public schools. At eight public hearings, parents will be able to comment on a study of adolescent sexuality, prepared by a Board of Education task force, that contains local statistics for teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as several approaches to condom distribution. The task force made no recommendations, but offered several suggestions: distributing condoms to students starting in eighth grade, offering condoms via vending machines, phasing in condom distribution, and prohibiting condom distribution.
