New England News Briefs: Condom Vendors Proposed in Clubs

June 11, 1992
Boston Globe (06/11/92), P. 84

Boston City Councilor David Scondras (Fenway) Wednesday introduced a law that would mandate all facilities with entertainment licenses to install condom machines in an effort to thwart the spread of HIV. "It's a small but significant step to continue the good work that has been done to put the brakes on this virus," said Scondras. However, Councilor James Kelly (South Boston) indicated that the Scondras plan was unnecessary and that the wider availability of condoms would encourage promiscuity. The proposal was submitted to the council's Committee on Public Health.
