The prevalence of tuberculosis in the United States increased for the fourth year in a row in 1992 for a total of 26,673 cases, says a report issued yesterday by the American Lung Association. As reported to the Centers for Disease Control, active cases of TB, in which people exhibit symptoms of the potentially deadly disease, increased 1.5 percent in 1992 from 26,283 cases in 1991, said the report. During the American Lung Association's annual conference, its president, Lee Reichman, said, "TB is still the largest cause of death from any infectious disease in the world." Following a 30-year decline, active TB cases began to resurge in 1985.
