Australian researchers say that an experimental vaccine for human papilloma virus (HPV) has demonstrated surprising success. The vaccine uses non-infectious virus-like particles (VLPs) and generated both antibodies and a cellular immune responses. All participants in the study had an immune response to the VLPs at the end of the 12-week immunization period, and two-thirds of the women had no genital warts after treatment. The study will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal Vaccine.
