Edmonton Journal (09.13.07) - Thursday, September 13, 2007
Responding to an increase in STDs on the campus since the mid-
1990s, a manufacturer has donated 25,000 condoms to the
University of British Columbia as part of a one-year pilot
project. The condoms will be distributed at dorms and other
campus locations. Dr. Patricia Mirwaldt, director of UBC
Student Health services, noted that reports of syphilis, human
papillomavirus, and chlamydia are up, and that "One of the
reasons. is that people have not been as consistent with using
condoms. People know they should use one, but it's just a
little bit boring or complicated to go and get the condom
before they have sex."
