WASHINGTON, June 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Test for Life
announces plans to mark the thirteenth annual National HIV Testing Day on
Wednesday, June 27th with a reminder to all: Be proactive and make HIV
testing part of your routine medical care.
"National HIV Testing Day is ideal for people to make time to be tested
for HIV as we band together to fight the spread of the disease and to
ensure that individuals who are infected have access to necessary treatment
and care," said Gary Puckrein, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer
of the National Minority Quality Forum.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1.2
million people in the United States are infected with HIV and that a
quarter of them do not know it. CDC also estimates that the majority of new
sexually transmitted HIV infections are caused by individuals who are
unaware of their status.
The Test for Life Campaign supports National HIV Testing Day, which was
created by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA). For more
information on getting tested where you are, please visit the National HIV
Testing Resources Web site: http://www.hivtest.org.
Test for Life Launches State Coalitions
Test for Life also announced the launch of state coalitions in three
states: Alabama, California, and North Carolina.
"We are thrilled to have these states on board with our national HIV-
testing campaign, Test for Life," said Dr. Puckrein. "We know this
partnership will help infuse the states with the information needed to stop
the spread of HIV/AIDS and treat patients effectively, and we look forward
to adding more states to the list."
Test for Life began in 2006 as an educational campaign of the National
Minority Quality Forum, designed to raise awareness of the importance of
routine HIV screening in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. CDC's Revised
Recommendations for HIV Testing are essential to improving early diagnosis
of HIV and linking patients to early care and treatment of the disease. To
