The Texas AIDS Health Fraud Information Network Educates

June 30, 1999
DALLAS, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released by TAHFIN: TAHFIN members monitor public Internet web sites, newsgroups and broadcasted e-mail messages regularly. We identify potential scams and the promotion of suspect fraudulent treatments. We try to counteract obvious misinformation in the same forum by sharing our extensive knowledge base and promoting our web site, http://www.tahfin.org/. In most cases, we forward our findings to our enforcement partners -- FDA, FTC and TDH-for follow-up and advice.

TAHFIN is a task force sponsored by the US Food and Drug Administration and composed of Community-Based Organizations (CBO), Texas Department of Health (TDH), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Treatment Advocates, Health Care Providers and people with HIV/AIDS. The mission of TAHFIN is to educate the consumer on HIV/AIDS treatment fraud issues and concerns, especially as they relate to potentially dangerous or fraudulent therapies.

TAHFIN respects the right of individuals to pursue alternative forms of treatment in addition to traditional therapies. TAHFIN encourages each individual to make the most educated and informed decisions possible. Media and consumers may reach us toll-free at 800-758-5152 or on the Internet at http://www.tahfin.org/ or info@tahfin.org.
