Medical parole is an early release from prison for patients who are very
ill. Eligibility requirements include a diagnosis of terminal illness,
and patients must be affected by their illness to the degree where they
require assistance in caring for themselves. Those inmates who are
convicted of murder, manslaughter, or sexual offenses are not eligible,
regardless of their medical condition. Procedures are outlined for
applying for medical parole, and the system for granting one is
detailed.
