Int Conf AIDS. 1996 Jul 7-12;11(1):172 (abstract no. Mo.D.1689). Unique
Objectives: Approximately 80% of the Brazilian people infected with HIV
is a young and economically active population, therefore, workers
between 20 to 40 years old. The CGT-Brasil is a nationwide
representative entity that defend the workers rights. Concerned with the
health of workers in relation to DSTs/AIDS, the CGT-Brasil sees the
necessity of promoting and developing continuous and preventive
educational actions inside companies and its employees, using for that
its organizational structure nationwide, with actions coordinated by the
associated trade-unions. Methods: A CGT-Brasil project in partnership
with the Ministry of Health was done, foreseen to happen in three
phases: national research, continuous and preventive educational action
of intervention and evaluation of results, all to be concluded in three
years. It is a research with two different groups: employees and
companies, to investigate, know and evaluate quantitatively the
attitudes and practices of sexual behavior among workers with the
purpose of detecting risk and preventive behavior related to the
DSTs/AIDS, the injection drug use and blood transfusions, as well as the
ways of communication and intervention considered most efficient to the
information and accomplishment of a DSTs/AIDS prevention policy with the
workers; and the precautions and the existing practices of DSTs/AIDS
prevention policies inside companies. The evaluation among workers will
be done through 3,500 interviews with the application of structured
questionnaires of about 30 questions, with personal approach, in the
economically active population, representative in the sections of
industry, services, civil construction, transportation and health
nationwide; in the companies the evaluation will be done through 500
interviews with the application of a structured questionnaire of 20
questions, with phone approach, starting from a representative sample of
sections of industry, services, civil construction, transportation and
health nationwide, done with owners, managers or human resource
directors. In the metropolitan area of each region of the country
(south, southeast, central west, northeast and north). Results: This
research is already happening and its results will be know in March, 18,
1996, time of delivery of the final reports issued by the research
Institute Datafolha, Responsible for the collection and analysis of the
material. These informations will allow us to know the national reality
by categories and macroregions, seeking future DSTs/AIDS prevention
actions. Conclusion: We, therefore, conclude that we are capable of
presenting these results in the XI International Conference on AIDS,
pioneer in our country and because the social actions of prevention and
assistance is happening through a unique partnership between workers,
employers and the government.
