Plan to craft new protections for privacy nears completion.

The "Model State Public Health Privacy Project" is about to unveil a model statute aimed at making HIV/AIDS surveillance programs more secure. The statute is sponsored by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and the National Conference of State Legislatures and is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE). The highlights of the statute are discussed. Possible sanctions for violating the statute are presented. A draft of the statute is available on the Internet, and contact information is provided.
