NEW JERSEY: N.J. Lawmakers to Vote on Sales of Needles

December 5, 2011
Associated Press (12.05.11) - Monday, December 05, 2011

The state Assembly is scheduled to vote on a bill that would authorize pharmacy-based sales of syringes without a prescription. The bill's supporters hope the measure, which passed the state Senate earlier this year, could help curb HIV and other blood-borne infections among injection drug users. If the bill passes Monday, it would go to Gov. Chris Christie for his consideration. In 2008, New Jersey passed a law allowing needle-exchange programs in up to six cities statewide.
