CHINA: Chinese Hepatitis C Outbreak Not Caused by Clinic's Needles: Initial Probe

December 12, 2011
Xinhua News Agency (12.11.11) - Monday, December 12, 2011

The initial investigation into an outbreak of hepatitis C linked to a private clinic in central China has turned up no evidence that the clinic's needles were contaminated with the virus, local officials said Monday. The outbreak was first reported in late October in Anhui province. A new source of infection has been traced to Yongcheng, where scores of new cases were detected after the local government launched a screening program. Henan province health authorities will continue to investigate the clinic, located in Yongcheng's suburbs, where 103 people became infected with hepatitis C, allegedly after receiving intravenous injections.
