The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health today is wrapping up the first round of testing of nearly 150 students who had been in contact with a pupil with active TB. The student was in an all-day program at Anthis Career Center, said FWCS spokesperson Krista Stockman, and exposure to other youths was minimal. The student was confined to one area of Anthis, so the school was able to identify those potentially at risk there and on the school bus. Those identified include pupils from Anthis, Wayne High School, Northrop High School and Ward Education Center. "It could have been many more students [exposed] had the student been in high school and walking in the halls, going from class to class, but that is not the case," Stockman said. The health department will follow up with those screened in the current round of testing, she said. A second screening round in about eight weeks will confirm the results, said John Silcox, health department spokesperson. "While this is not a routine situation, we do consider the [risk of exposure] to be low," he said.
