A New Yorker who's been rescued from three previous attempts to cross the Atlantic in a rowboat says he's going to give it one more try.

Victor Mooney of Queens, N.Y., said Sunday that he will set off in a new rowboat Dec. 1 from the Canary Islands off Africa. His plans for his 5,000-mile journey back to New York include stops in the British Virgin Islands and Miami.

Mooney announced his fourth bid for a solo trans-Atlantic crossing at the Miami International Boat Show.

Last March, Mooney spent two weeks adrift in a life raft before being rescued about 250 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. He also needed rescues in 2006 and 2009.

Mooney says he's pursued his unlikely quest to promote HIV testing.
