A New Yorker who's been rescued from three previous attempts to
cross the Atlantic in a rowboat says he's going to give it one
Victor Mooney of Queens, N.Y., said Sunday that he will set off
in a new rowboat Dec. 1 from the Canary Islands off Africa. His
plans for his 5,000-mile journey back to New York include stops
in the British Virgin Islands and Miami.
Mooney announced his fourth bid for a solo trans-Atlantic
crossing at the Miami International Boat Show.
Last March, Mooney spent two weeks adrift in a life raft before
being rescued about 250 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. He
also needed rescues in 2006 and 2009.
