On Thursday, Exeter Hospital said it had communicated with all patients who should undergo testing due to a hepatitis C outbreak linked to its cardiac catheterization lab and recovery room. All patients who meet testing criteria and were treated at the lab from April 1, 2011, to May 25, 2012, have been contacted, said Ryan Lawrence, Exeter Health Resources spokesperson. The state Department of Public Health has confirmed that 10 Exeter patients are infected with the same strain of hepatitis C; one patient is a hospital employee. The first four cases were reported last week. After six more cases were confirmed, the state expanded the number of patients recommended to have the test. The notifications were made by letter and phone call; patients who were contacted, but have not been tested should telephone 603-580-6124.
