Singer Elton John and tennis great Billie Jean King will bring their AIDS fundraiser to Pittsburgh this fall, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl is set to announce Monday. The 20th annual World Team Tennis Smash Hits will take place in October at the Petersen Events Center at the University of Pittsburgh. "We’re really excited to host this world-renowned event, which will bring more global attention to Pittsburgh and bring light to such an important issue," said Joanna Doven, the mayor’s spokesperson. Last October’s event was held in Cleveland, where it raised $500,000 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the AIDS Task Force of Greater Cleveland. During its 19 years, the tennis exhibition has raised more than $10.5 million for EJAF and local charities, according to organizers.
