Jackson Free Press (09.13.12)The US Department of Health and Human Services has cited the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ re-entry program for inmates leaving state prison as one of the nation’s best and a model for other corrections agencies. The Mississippi AIDS Education Training Center developed the discharge manual, assisted MDOC to train personnel, and continues to assist with re-entry planning. The program includes checklists, social-service resources, HIV testing sites, contact information for social workers, housing information, services offered by the state department of health, and other information that the ex-offender may need. MDOC data show that 218 inmates are HIV positive, and 57 have AIDS.
