On Saturday, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) planned to become the first community-based HIV-testing program in the United States to provide HIV test results in one minute. AHF introduced the new test at a gala event at the Abbey with testing continuing to midnight. Testing counselors in five of AHF’s free mobile testing vans stationed in front of the Abbey offered free, one-minute result tests to the community. The INSTI™ Rapid HIV Test from bioLytical Laboratories received approval in July for widespread use in the United States by the US Food and Drug Administration. According to Terri Ford, Senior Director of Global Policy and Advocacy, AHF has used more than 1 million of these tests in the past four years in programs and partnerships in Uganda, India, Mexico, and Estonia, and is happy to bring the technology home to people in the United States.
