The 2012 Gary Player Invitational Charity Gala Dinner, held on October 29, raised more than 8 million yuan ($1.27 million) for children affected with AIDS, making a total of 50 million yuan donated over the past six years. This year’s gala was jointly sponsored by Coca-Cola China and the Chinese Foundation for the Prevention of STDs and AIDS. The theme of the event was “Live with Love for a Better Tomorrow.” The event, which is in its sixth consecutive year, was founded by golfer Gary Player as part of the Player Foundation and Coca Cola’s goal of raising funds for the care of children affected by AIDS. In the past five years, the event has raised more than 42 million yuan that has benefited more than 9,062 AIDS-affected children across four provinces and autonomous regions of China. The funds were used to provide long-term living allowances, financial aid, medical assistance, and psychological counseling. Also, 205 AIDS-affected families, including 710 AIDS-affected women in Yunnan province, have received support with housing aid for 21 families and university scholarships for 43 AIDS-affected children.
