For World AIDS Day, the First Christian Church, located on 14th Street in Greenville, N.C., will be displaying three blocks of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, beginning at 7 p.m. on December 1. The quilt display is part of Greenville’s first Interfaith AIDS Service. Event organizer Brad Collier explains, “It is a service of hope, comfort, and inspiration. We want to reflect on the AIDS epidemic in the ‘80s and all the death that took place. And then we want to focus on those who have lost loved ones, as well as those who currently live with HIV or AIDS.” The interfaith service will include readings, songs, and poems from Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, Pagan, Muslim, and Jewish traditions. Following the service, many local AIDS organizations will set up displays in the social hall, including PICASO (Pitt County Aids Service Organization), Brody HIV/AIDS Reach Out Clinic—which will provide free HIV testing—and CommWell Health. Theron Stuart, a minister, will be the keynote speaker for the quilt unveiling.
