The Bahamas Family Planning Association and the Bahamas Urban Youth Development Center sponsored a community health fair in Gambier Village on Saturday, December 1 in honor of Family Planning Month and World AIDS Day. The Rotary Club of East Nassau, OraSure, and Ports International provided the health fair with free OraQuick Rapid HIV Saliva Tests and other health screenings, including blood pressure checks offered by the Bahamas Family Planning Medical Team. The event emphasized that individuals should know their HIV status and be mindful of HIV and its impact on families and communities. Prodesta Moore, executive director of the Bahamas Urban Youth Development Center, declared that people need to know about the effect that HIV is having on the country, especially among the youth. The well-attended fair included free giveaways, a live remote, food and drinks, and entertainment for the entire family. Many organizations supported and funded the event, including PEPFAR (the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief).
