The AIDS Assistance Program (AAP) of Palm Springs, Calif., will receive a much-needed financial boost through proceeds raised from the 22nd Palm Springs Winter Classic Softball Tournament, scheduled February 8–10, 2013. The tournament will feature 80 teams and hundreds of players from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. AAP provides meals to low-income individuals who have been diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, and has watched its client roster grow to more than 500 patients since its founding in 1991. The tournament was established in that same year as a fundraising event to help offset out-of-town expenses for the Desert Heat Softball team members. Teams will compete on several fields, including Demuth Park in Palm Springs and the Big League Dreams Sports Field in Cathedral City. For more information, call (760) 323–8277.
