Sexual Health Service Sandyford, of the National Health Service (NHS) Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and the Scottish nonprofit Gay Men’s Health are teaming to launch a drop-in health clinic for Glasgow’s gay and bisexual men. The clinic will be open on Thursdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gay Men’s Health Office on Bell Street, in Glasgow’s Merchant Centre, and will be able to provide HIV and syphilis test results in 20 minutes via blood drawn from the finger. Sexual health improvement officer Nicky Coia notes that there was a desire to provide greater choice for men who might find it difficult to make appointments and wait for test results. An estimated 4,315 HIV-infected individuals currently live in Scotland. Since unprotected sex with men accounts for the highest rate of new diagnoses, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde hopes the clinic will help combat the spread of the HIV.
